Antique Signet Rings
Traditionally Signet rings where used as a form of signature often bearing the persons initials or a monogram. The engraver would create a mirror image of the initals or monogram on the Signet ring to allow the person to press their signature into a clay seal on a document to prevent tampering. Because of this, Signet rings are often known as seal rings. Your antique Signet ring will need to be washed regularly with hot, soapy water followed by a thorough rinse and then dried with a soft cloth.
